Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Is it only me or Gmail have switched from HTTPS to HTTP?

If it is so, I might switch to another webmail more secure.

Cool New Search Applications

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Search was becoming boring. Google, MSN and Yahoo! have all stopped innovating in those areas. Of course, new companies are trying to redefine the game: JetEye and IntelliText.

They are trying to understand, your context and provides you with search result before you need them.

Something quite interesting and revolutionating have started.

More later…

Generalization of Social Networks

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

MySpace is all the rush now. Everybody thinks social networks those days (therefore graph and OR) . And they are right. This post blogs about vertical social networks. They will be probably be really important. Who would like his LinkedIn and MySpace profile to intersect?

Here’s another good point:

“Markets are social networks, with some specialized rules, and we will continue to see the enhancement of markets for everything including cars, jobs, and the like.” This is both true and untrue, bue quite well written :p

This is the last part on my presentation on large scale distributed file system. Here is the report (in French) synthetizing all we have said on the subject.

This presentation was made for a CNAM class and I wish to thank all the professors and the other students for their support and help.

Microsoft Censoring MSN Messenger

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

All URL containing download.php and gallery.php are blocked. This is to prevent worms and exploits to spread (my solution: use Linux and Gaim you won’t have any problem). What is more concerning is the fact they built some filters on their server.

How to be sure they didn’t record anything or read chat from interesting IP @ or containing certain words? Or that no one have hacked into their server and are spying on you? One solution: use Jabber on your own server and encrypt everything.

I know certain companies are exchanging password through MSN…

Example of MSN Messenger

One thind is sure. This is going to be disastrous for Microsoft’s PR and good for Jabber’s one. This is one of the limit of the “all hosted software”

Overloaded By Work: Reflection On This Blog

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

Those days, I am just overloaded by work. I am just over a “hell week” (three exams, one trip to Italy, a lot of meetings, some code to commit for Google SoC and so on.) and next one is only slightly better (start my master’s thesis, work, Google SoC, one exam,…). It is the last “hell week” of this academic year.

I will have soon more time available to post on this blog. Right now, I just work and… work.

Let us take this time as an opportunity to reflect on this blog. What do you think of it? How can I improve it? Please leave your thoughts as comment.
