Best Career Advice I Have Read So Far

This is simply one of the best career advice’s post I have read so far.

Excellent questions (as always with Guy) and insightful answers. They come from Penelope Trunk. I have actually added her book on my Amazon wishlist.

My parent’s were pro college since I was two years old. I had to go to the college they went to. My sister was about finished with her undergraduate degree when I started (yes at the college my folks went to.) I graduated in the same field my sister did, psychology. We both got so, so jobs. A few years latter I went back for a masters degree. Meanwhile my sister started to window dress and widow dress she did.
It was in the early to mid 80’s. AA was hot. (No someone’s alcohol) Her company needed a token Eskimo, a blind person who could read, and women to promote. It all looked good to HR.
She then got an offer for a big promo with all the perks such as expense account, car allowance. The BIG catch was she would have to move from her beloved home state. Just what she wanted? She wanted to get out and away from our folks. Well it’s been an AA dream come true. Now she is a vice-pres. at some big company.
As for me, I got the other end of AA. Then my health failed me and I have been out of work for about 12 years with a disability. My SSI and my wife’s income get us by. I got no real complaints. My problem is that I am afraid of my wife’s retirement. Will she have one? So I have been trying to re-enter the work force. Nota! Nothing. I can not get even get an interview with SSI as a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
I just want my wife to be able to retire someday, and that is my plight.
